After studying the entire book of Joshua in the last 30 lessons, we have come to the final words. Class Teacher, Doug Brady, takes a final look at the man, Joshua. What he stood for. How he led. What military decisions he, as the general, made. Doug also looks at the key events in the life of the young nation of Israel. This lesson, along with #30 are a good review of the book, and can be used independently to study. Our next series is titled, The Fear of God. Doug asks the question, If our God is a loving and merciful God, who extended grace to us in our time of need, does He expect us to fear Him? Answers to that and many other questions in the new series beginning soon.

The Study of the Old Testament Book of Joshua has been an interesting, exciting, and eye-opening experience. And today, in the 29th episode of this study, we reach the final chapter of the book, chapter 24. We will have 2 more weeks after this lesson to summarize and fill in some holes in our study of the book. Today's lesson, titled, "Joshua, The Last Address", comes at the very end of Joshua's life. He is 110 years old, and he is talking to the Children of Israel with this farewell speech. In it, he urges Israel to stay passionately committed to their God, Yahweh. He reminds them of God's faithfulness to them during the battles they have fought, and warns them again about the perils of disobedience. Class teacher Douglas W. Brady gives this lesson its full treatment, and we learn from it.

Sunday Mar 22, 2015
In this, the 28th episode of the study of the Book of Joshua, class teacher, Doug Brady, takes the 23rd chapter of the book and explains it in detail. Joshua has led the nation of Israel for many years. He has brought them across the Jordan (on dry ground), defeated Jericho, Ai, and many other towns. He has ended the war, and apportioned the lands to the 12 tribes of Israel. And now, at the age of nearly 110 years old, he is giving instructions to the leaders of the people and the 12 tribes. He especially emphasizes the need for continued Radical Obedience in their walk with God.

Tuesday Mar 17, 2015
This is the 27th episode in this ongoing series on the Old Testament Book of Joshua. We are nearing the end of the study as we go to the 22nd Chapter of Joshua, verses 9-34. Here, we find the children of Israel now settled in their new homeland, and building a second altar, (The first is in the Tabernacle located at Shiloh). Is this legal under the laws of God? Will they be destroyed because of this action? Class teacher Doug Brady covers these questions and many more. This passage also admonishes us not to stray from the core spiritual truths by replacing them with substitute values or good intentions. When there is spiritual discord between God's people, we should seek first to reconcile, and not divide. But if reconciliation is not possible, then spiritual purity must be preserved.

In this episode in the Old Testament book of Joshua, we begin the final section of the book, and see the children of Israel finally able to settle in their new land, the promised land. And in this chapter, the 22nd of the book, we are concentrating on the Rest that God gives to those who are obedient and faithful. Class teacher Doug Brady gives us a clear understanding of these verses, and brings wonderful application into our lives in the 21st century. This is the 26th in the series on the book of Joshua.

In this 25th episode of the ongoing study on the Old Testament Book of Joshua, class teacher, Doug Brady describes how the Levites, who are the Priests of the Children of Israel, are distributed among the cities of the Promised Land. Other tribes have received an area of land, but the Levites are sent to all corners of the land. This description comes from Joshua 19-21.

In this 24th episode of the Study of the Book of Joshua series, we receive lessons in leadership from Joshua and Caleb. Joshua's complete obedience has led Israel to victory in battle, and into God's promised rest. Caleb followed God wholly and with great faith. He didn't take vacations from his Lord. In fact, Caleb is the perfect example of one who started strong in his walk with God and finished strong as well. This attribute is missing in today's world, both secular and spiritual. Neither Joshua or Caleb allowed the deceitfulness of sin to harden his heart . . . each man united his message from God with faith and complete, radical obedience, which results in fulfilled lives of victory and peace. Doug's lesson notes can be seen by clicking here.

Monday Feb 16, 2015
In this 23rd episode of the Study of the Old Testament Book of Joshua, we are in Joshua chapters 13 through 19. The lesson we learn through this conquest was that radical obedience leads to spiritual victory, and not the other way around. Joshua was fully obedient, not almost obedient. Sometimes we tend to think that almost is close enough, which leaves a foothold in our heart or mind that God wants eliminated. God does not want us to be borderline believers, but rather examples of faith and radical obedience for the next generation of believers. Class teacher Doug Brady discusses this and more about how the land is divided between the 12 tribes of Israel.

Have you ever wondered what the best way is to select a leader, be it corporate, government or any other leader? Would you ever guess that the book of Joshua has the answer? Well, it does, and class teacher, Doug Brady points it out. The battle for the Promised Land is over, and now the children of Israel begin to live in the land they have fought for. But have they captured the whole land, or only a portion? This is the 22nd episode in this series.

This is the 21st lesson in this ongoing series.

This is the 20th episode in this ongoing series through the Old Testament book of Joshua. The children of Israel have defeated several towns in the Promised Land, and now have a problem. Through trickery on the part of the leaders of the city-state of Gibeon, Joshua has made a covenant with Gibeon that they will not attack the Gibeonites. But when the trickery is discovered, it becomes a problem as Joshua has given his word, and his integrity means everything. But God intervenes. This is a story that includes HailStones being thrown from heaven and hitting only the enemy, as well as the Sun stopping its movement for an entire day. You will enjoy this lesson, taken from Joshua Chapter 10.

We have reached the 9th chapter of Joshua, and now Joshua is faced with the "disguised" leaders from the town of Gibeon, who have come to get a promise from Joshua that their people would not be killed. The whole concept of Radical Obedience again comes into play in this discussion and decision making. Class teacher, Doug Brady describes the scene, the problems, and the outcome in this lesson. This is the 19th episode in this ongoing study of Joshua.

The Study of the Book of Joshua - Week #17 - The Conquest of Ai - Jos 8:3-29
Sunday Dec 07, 2014
Sunday Dec 07, 2014
This is the 17th lesson in the ongoing series from the Old Testament Book of Joshua. We are now about to launch the second attack the little town of Ai, which is located about 11 miles west of Jericho, where just a few days before, the walls came down. But when the children of Israel arrived at Ai, they were quickly defeated by the small army of this town.
Now, with the sin in the camp removed, Joshua sets a military plan which by all accounts is brilliant. And they totally defeat this town, making it possible to move on to Bethel and other areas of the promised land.
Class teacher Doug Brady has researched the battle for Ai completely, and shares his analysis of this mastermind campaign, while at the same time emphasizing the Radical Obedience that was necessary for the victory.

Sin has consequences. And nowhere do we find as strong a consequence as we find in this passage in the Book Of Joshua. The children of Israel have defeated the city of Jericho, but they did it with very specific and demanding instructions from God. Included was the command to not take any spoils from the city of Jericho. Everything was to be an offering of first-fruits to God.
But Achan sinned. He took several items, buried them beneath his tent, and then lied when approached by Joshua regarding the theft. And God acted swiftly and immediately to destroy Achan, his entire family, his livestock . . . everything Achan owned. Why would God punish so completely in this way? Class teacher, Doug Brady gives a clear and concise answer to that question in todays lesson. This is the 16th lesson in this series.

The Study of the Book of Joshua - Week #15 - The Sin of Israel - Jos 7:1-15
Sunday Nov 30, 2014
Sunday Nov 30, 2014
The story continues. The Children of Israel have had a magnificent victory over the city of Jericho, which was guarded, walled and protected. Now, they continue on to the little unguarded, unwalled, and unprotected city of Ai. And they lose -- big time. What was the difference. Class teacher Doug Brady tackles this in his usual concrete way by providing scriptures and demands of Radical Obedience to finish out this story. But the sin that is found in the camp of the Israelites will not be tolerated by God. Next weeks lesson will cover the consequences of that sin. This is the 15th episode in this series on the book of Joshua.

The Believer’s Bible Class, a part of the historic First Baptist Church in Downtown Dallas, Texas, is continuing its ongoing study in the Old Testament Book of Joshua. And this week, class teacher Doug Brady brings us the story of the battle of Jericho, where the walls truly come tumbling down. But was this accomplished by the warriors of Israel, who numbered somewhere between 2 and 2 and a half million people, or was the battle won by the hosts of Heaven who had gathered to fight the fight.
Doug brings us this message with great emphasis on the radical obedience that was necessary by everyone one of the Israelite's, and especially by Joshua, their leader. This is the 14th lesson in this ongoing series on Joshua.

Sunday Nov 09, 2014
This is the 13th episode in the ongoing study of the Bible book of Joshua. Today’s lesson continues the lesson that we began last week, as Joshua, the leader of the children of Israel as they go into the Promised Land, meets with a mighty warrior, who we learn is actually a pre-incarnate Lord Jesus Christ. This is a planning session for the battle that is about to take place.
In this lesson, class teacher, Doug Brady, takes us to the site of Jericho, and reveals to us the finds of archaeological digs that have taken place over the past several hundred years, all of which prove that the battle did occur, that walls did fall down, and that the battle was short and complete.

Now, returning to our study in the Book of Joshua, class teacher, Doug Brady, takes us into the story of Jericho. With walls 25 feet high, and 20 feet thick, it is a nearly impenetrable fortress. But God has some interesting plans for the destruction of the city. And in this lesson, we find God meeting with Joshua in front of the city and giving him the instructions on how to proceed. This is the 12th lesson in this ongoing series in the Book of Joshua.

Moving along with our study of the Book of Joshua, we come to the 4th chapter. Here, the children of Israel are crossing the Jordan River on dry land, and when they are all across, God instructs them to build a memorial -- which is a pile of 12 stones. Then, Joshua builds one of his own to commemorate the occasion. Class teacher, Doug Brady, takes us through "Why Stack Stones?" , "Should We Stack Stones?" and other subjects. Doug himself commented that he was surprised at the amount of material is contained in this one chapter. This is Lesson #10 in the series on Joshua.

In the 9th lesson in the series, we have reached the 3rd chapter of the book of Joshua, and Class Teacher Doug Brady discusses the process of taking the 2.5 million people across the Jordan River as they enter the promised land. The description of the river during harvest time, and the way it "suddenly" dries up so that the people can cross on dry land is wonderful. You will enjoy this installment in our study of Joshua.

The Study of the Old Testament Book of Joshua continues as we learn about spying out the city of Jericho, and the confrontation the spies have with the harlot, Rahab. Class teacher, Doug Brady, shows how God uses this non-Jewish woman to accomplish his plan, and how she becomes part of the history of Israel, even to being in the ancestry of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is Lesson #8 in the series.
